IN-PERSON Technical Presentation: A Case Study of 3D Printing in the Canadian Construction Industry

What a treat for those that attended our Walking Tour @ the ACE Climatic Wind Tunnel located on the Ontario Tech University. We learned. We walked. We ate!

Just prior to this next dinner meeting presentation on May 2nd, the CSC Toronto Chapter will be holding our Annual Chapter Meeting.  A copy of the Toronto Chapter's 2022-2023 Annual Report will be made available to all registered dinner meeting attendees and to anyone who requests it by e-mail at toronto@csc-dcc.ca after May 1st, 2023.

Presentation Description:
3D printing for the construction industry is a revolutionary technology that has the potential to transform the way buildings are designed and constructed in Canada – and the rest of the world. It involves the use of large-scale 3D printers that are capable of printing entire buildings or parts of buildings in a matter of hours or days.

The process typically involves the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software to create a digital model of the building, which is then sent to the 3D printer. The printer uses various materials such as concrete, cement, and other building materials to build the structure layer by layer, following the design specifications.

There are several advantages to using 3D printing in the construction industry: it allows for faster construction times, lower labour costs, and the ability to create more complex and intricate designs. More importantly, 3D printing has the potential to help solve the housing crisis in Canada. Additionally, 3D printing can also reduce waste and lower the carbon footprint of construction projects.

To conclude, 3D construction printing is a rapidly growing field with tremendous potential to transform the construction industry, and nidus3D is leading the charge by addressing these sector adaptation challenges head-on by building Canada’s first-ever permitted 3D structures.
